NASA's X-59 "quiet" supersonic jet continues to make its way toward the runway.

The X-59 was designed from the ground up to fly faster than the speed of sound without generating the thunderous sonic booms typically associated with supersonic flight. The 99-foot (30-meter) aircraft features a radical elongated design, which eliminates a front windscreen; pilots instead see what's ahead through an augmented reality-enabled closed circuit camera system that NASA calls the External Vision System, or XVS.

This month, NASA took the experimental aircraft out for a drive, performing what are known as taxi tests. During these tests, NASA test pilot Nils Larson drove the X-59 across a runway at low speeds so crews could ensure the jet's steering and braking systems work as intended. Next, NASA and Lockheed Martin will perform high-speed taxi tests in which the X-59 will accelerate to close to the speed at which it will take off.

The taxi tests took place at the U.S. Air Force's Plant 42 facility in Palmdale, California. The Air Force and its contractors use the plant to manufacture and test classified aircraft; the X-59 is being developed by Lockheed Martin, whose legendary "Skunk Works" facility is found at Plant 42.

Some of the U.S. military's most advanced aircraft were developed to some extent at Plant 42, including the F-22 Raptor, the B-2 Spirit, and the uncrewed RQ-170 Sentinel spy drone.

NASA's recently-retired SOFIA airborne observatory aircraft, the "flying telescope," also called Plant 42 home. The agency's space shuttles, the world's first reusable spacecraft, were also assembled and tested at the facility.

These taxi tests are only the most recent tests that have taken place over the last several months. Earlier this month, NASA teamed up with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to test a scale model of the X-59 in a supersonic wind tunnel in order to measure the noise produced beneath the aircraft.

Months prior, in May 2025, NASA fed data into the aircraft's computers that simulated being in flight, including experiencing failures. A month before that, NASA ran the X-59 through an "engine speed hold," similar to a car's cruise control, to ensure its engine can maintain a specific speed.

But 2025 began with the most photogenic of all: afterburner tests, during which extra fuel was injected into the aircraft's hot exhaust.

If the X-59's upcoming tests continue to be successful, NASA will soon conduct a flight test campaign that will see the jet fly over selected populated areas to collect data on how the aircraft's quieter sonic "thumps" are perceived on the ground.

The ultimate goal is to develop technologies that can help bring supersonic flight back to the continental United States. Commercial supersonic flight has been banned for decades because of how disruptive the associated sonic booms can be.

If the X-59 and other supersonic aircraft can find ways to mitigate these loud sonic booms, supersonic flight could indeed return, greatly reducing flight times for civilian travel, disaster response, medical transport and other applications.

Baumgartner died Wednesday (July 16) during a paragliding flight in coastal Italy, according to an Associated Press report citing an Italian official.

The paraglider crashed into a swimming pool edge in Porto Sant'Elpidio, AP's report added; Italian media reports cited by English-language outlets disagree as to the cause, and whether others were injured.

Baumgartner, a long-time skydiver and extreme sports enthusiast, reached world fame on Oct. 14, 2012 after skydiving 128,000 feet (39 km) from a tiny capsule suspended under a high-altitude balloon.

"I know the whole world is watching now, and I wish the world could see what I see," Baumgartner said in a Red Bull livestream of the event, before stepping out the door of his capsule. "And sometimes you have to go up really high to see how small you really are."

As he plunged from an altitude three times higher than commercial flight routes, Baumgartner's body tumbled and spun in the thin air before he righted himself, popped a parachute and landed safely in the New Mexico desert. Baumgartner's record-breaking flight was superseded in 2014 when Google executive Alan Eustace made his own jump from nearly 136,000 feet (41 km).

Red Bull, who sponsored Baumgartner's jump, paid tribute to Baumgartner's life on Instagram after his death. "Felix was 'born to fly' and was determined to push the limits," the post noted, but added he did so judiciously: "He was also smart, professional, thorough and meticulous, never leaving anything to chance."

Baumgartner was born in Salzburg in 1969, the same year that humans first landed on the moon during Apollo 11. He started skydiving at 16, gaining experience through Austrian military's demonstration and competition team. He then began performing skydiving exhibitions for Red Bull at age 19, according to his official website.

By 1996, when Baumgartner was about 27, he wanted to start base jumping, or skydiving from towers and similar high objects. He achieved some fame outside of his field in 1999 after leaping from the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Baumgartner's base-jumping teacher, Tracy Lee Walker, "not only taught me how to base jump, but also how to deal with risks, and the importance of very careful and thorough planning," Baumgartner said in an interview decades later, for his aviation enthusiast group

Baumgartner leaves behind his long-time partner, Mihaela Rădulescu, according to several media reports.

Since the DJI RC Motion 3 is the most recent DJI motion controller, we'll focus on this throughout the article alongside the DJI Avata 2. Motion controllers, keeping things simple at this point, combine the use of basic physical controls alongside motion-based control that allows you to intuitively fly several DJI drones. But, it's DJI's FPV drones where this interesting controller impresses most.

The DJI RC Motion 3 Controller is included in the DJI Avata 2 kit and at a basic level, requires the pilot to pull the trigger to fly forwards while tilting it forwards or backward to ascend and descend. Turning is achieved by tilting the controller to the left or right. This is just the tip of the motion controller iceberg, so let's take a deeper dive…

What's the difference between a motion controller and a regular controller?

I may be showing my age here, but the easiest way to describe motion controllers is that they're like a joystick handle that's not attached to a base or wired. Motion controllers connect to drones — typically DJI FPV drones — allowing pilots to move the entire controller to turn the drone and adjust altitude rather than using control sticks.

In terms of FPV drones, these are traditionally difficult drones to fly even competently with a traditional FPV drone controller. It's said that to even begin to develop basic competency in manual/acro flight mode, where you can flip, roll and drive the drone alongside flying through tight gaps, takes 50 hours or more of flight experience. This is often recommended between real drone flight and FPV simulators.

Motion controllers, with the DJI Avata or Avata 2, use GPS positioning and hover functionality to allow even absolute beginners to fly FPV drones competently and confidently. No need to spend days and weeks learning to fly, you can hit the skies and fly through tight gaps in a matter of minutes.

The DJI RC Motion 3 Controller does allow for some basic 'stunt' maneuvers, but the downside is that you can't enjoy anywhere near the same degree of control as a traditional FPV controller. This is only a small negative, as the ease of use of FPV drones on offer is exceptional, and many people simply don't have the time or patience to learn how to fly traditional FPV drones.

What Drones can I fly with a DJI RC Motion 3 controller?

The DJI RC Motion 3 Controller is compatible with the DJI Avata 2, DJI Avata, DJI Neo, DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Air 3 and DJI Air3S. It's likely that the DJI Mavic 4 Pro is also compatible since this new drone uses DJI 04 video transmission.

Depending on the drone and compatibility, the drone needs to be paired with either the DJI Goggles 3 or the DJI Goggles N3 for the DJI RC Motion 3 to be compatible. The FPV goggles act as the screen to see the camera view, as well as to change drone and camera settings.

In the case of camera drones, you can enjoy FPV-style flight, but it's the DJI Avata and Avata 2 with their cine whoop design and built-in propeller guards that make the most sense to use with the DJI RC Motion 3. Not to mention, the Avata 2 comes in a kit that includes the controller.

DJI is the main drone company to incorporate motion controllers into some drone packages and compatibility options, but ZeroZero Robotics also produces a motion controller for two of its selfie drones. If that name doesn't sound familiar, think of the HoverAir X1 PRO and HoverAir X1 PROMAX.

These two drones don't come with a motion controller out of the box, but when you purchase the Beacon & Joystick Bundle, you can take advantage of a motion controller with a built-in screen. With this innovative accessory, you can create several modular controllers, including a motion controller.

Is it easier to fly with a motion controller?

When it comes to DJI FPV drones, using a motion controller makes immersive flight incredibly easy and intuitive. So much so that within 10 to 15 minutes of first using the controller, you'll have the confidence you need to push your flights further to fly through gaps and within small spaces.

Just remember, you must have an observer with you who can maintain a visual line of sight (VLOS) of the drone, since you're wearing FPV goggles.

Of course, like everything, perfecting your skills takes a little time, but the fact that an absolute beginner can competently fly an FPV drone in minutes is incredible. Just for perspective, as previously mentioned, learning to fly in manual/acro mode with a traditional FPV controller takes 50+ hours of flight practice.

So, the ability to be in the air and be able to fly with expert precision with a motion controller within minutes is incredible. Combine this with the immersive flying experience produced by wearing DJI FPV goggles and you'll be amazed at how intuitive the DJI RC Motion 3 Controller is.

How Do I fly DJI Drones with a motion controller?

Let's keep things super simple because they are. With the DJI RC Motion 3 Controller connected to a DJI Avata 2 and DJI Goggles N3, simply double-press the Emergency Brake and Hover button to start the propellers, then press and hold the button to take off and hold in a hover.

To fly forward, pull the trigger back and to turn, tilt the Motion Controller left or right. To fly up, tilt the controller back, and to fly downwards, tilt it forwards. A cursor— a white circle — can be seen in the FPV goggles, and this can be used as a target for where you want the drone to fly.

The Joystick can be used to adjust altitude, but tilting the motion controller forwards or backwards using the in-goggle cursor as a target is much more effective for moving up or down when flying forward. The joystick is best used to adjust altitude when hovering. To land, when hovering at a low altitude, simply press and hold the Emergency Brake and Hover button.

Since the majority of control is applied using motion, the DJI RC Motion 3 Controller has minimal direct access controls. These consist of just an On/Off button, an Emergency Brake and Hover button, a Flight Mode & Return to Home button, a Joystick to adjust altitude and roll the drone left and right, an Accelerator Trigger, an FN Dial for settings and a Record button. These are all incredibly easy to find when you can't see them when wearing FPV goggles.

What tactics do we see retailers use?

As mentioned above, our expert team often sees large price spikes leading up to Prime Day to then see a huge drop during the event. If you're not keeping an eye on the product you want leading up to the event, you will most likely only see the huge discount being offered. This doesn't mean you're actually saving much, even though it feels like you are. For example, a camera may be $1800 before Prime Day. It then gets spiked to $2200 in the days leading up to the sales and drops to $1700 for Prime Day. This makes it seem like you're saving $500, but to us, you're actually only saving $100.

Another thing we see often is that the price fluctuates daily in the lead-up to an event like Prime Day. This can make it hard to know when the best time to buy is. It spikes up and down over and over again, so keeping track can become a bit of a nightmare. Figuring out when to buy it while the price changes daily can also feel uncertain. What if it's cheaper again tomorrow? You'll be annoyed you didn't wait. We can help you here.

The third thing we see a lot is that the price of a product was actually lower a month or so ago, before the Prime Day sales began. The price gets hiked up for a while and then drops. This again makes it look like a good saving but often the dropped price is actually more than it was a month ago.

For example, say a telescope is listed as $2500 in May. The price may go up to $2900 in late June to then drop to $2600 during the Prime Day event. It seems like you've saved $300, but in our eyes, you haven't saved. You've overpaid! This leaves you with a conundrum. It may have been better to buy it before the sale. However, you don't definitively know this and this isn't what retailers do on every product.

So, effectively, there's no way of knowing if you'll be getting a better saving before or during Prime Day. You could continue to watch the product in the months leading up to Prime Day but realistically, who has the time and energy for that? Luckily for you, we do! Once it is fully up and running, the Rubin Observatory (funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation–Department of Energy) will be collecting 20 terabytes of data each night. Analyzing this data, it will issue 10 million alerts to astronomers, all of which will be managed by what are known as "brokers" that filter the huge number of alerts into something more manageable.

"In terms of data, we're at least an order of magnitude bigger than previous telescopes," University of Edinburgh computer scientist George Beckett, who is the U.K. Data Facility Coordinator for Rubin, told Space.com.

Over the next 10 years, Rubin's Legacy Survey of Space and Time will collect about 500 petabytes of data, equivalent to half a million 4K-UHD Blu-ray disks. Once collected by the telescope, the data will get transmitted along a dedicated network link between Rubin, which is located in Chile, and a data center at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in California. From SLAC, a copy of all the raw data will be sent to the IN2P3 computing facility in Lyon, France, and some of the data will also be sent to a U.K.-based distributed computing network.

The processing of the data will be shared between these three data centers, with SLAC contributing 35%, IN2P3 taking on 40% and the UK 25%. (There's also a modest data center in Chile, which hosts the Rubin Observatory, to support Chilean astronomers.) Not only do the multiple data centers provide redundancy so data can't be lost in an accident, but they also can support each other if one data center is falling behind on the processing. That's because what really counts for astronomers is getting the important data out quickly, so they can follow up on interesting alerts as soon as possible.

"My biggest challenge is having astronomers constantly demanding their data!" joked Beckett.

This vast amount of data will be a precious resource for astronomers not only in the here and now, but also decades into the future.

So, how does one go about searching through it all?

Beckett draws an analogy with searching for a photograph taken on your smartphone. "Your phone is probably full of pictures you've taken over the past five or 10 years, and finding that one picture from two years ago usually involves flicking through and it is a bit of a piecemeal approach," he said. "Now imagine that your phone has 1.5 million photos and they're all 10,000 pixels wide, you haven't got a chance of just flicking through them."

Bringing this analogy back to the Rubin dataset, the solution, Beckett says, is to provide accessible descriptions of all those images in a way that astronomers can find what they are searching for with relative ease. That's one of the reasons why Rubin's data handling is different compared to that of previous telescopes, with which astronomers could download pockets of data that they need without too much complexity. The dataset for Rubin is simply too big to download — so it's all kept in the "cloud."

The Rubin dataset is managed by a service called the Data Butler. It records all the metadata, which is the data about the data — time, date, sky coordinates, what's in the image and so on.

"An astronomer can come up with pretty much any query they want written in astronomy terms talking about astronomical objects, timescales or coordinate systems, and the Data Butler fetches what they need," said Beckett.

That's for longer-term research, but there's also the transients, the moving objects, the things that go bump in the night that set off alerts to prompt astronomers to chase them up before the transients fade away. These include supernovas, kilonovas that produce gravitational waves, novas, flare stars, eclipsing binaries, magnetar outbursts, asteroids and comets moving across the sky, quasars, and much more besides, possibly even new types of object never seen before. Rubin will produce an estimated 10 million alerts each night, releasing each alert within two minutes of it being detected by the telescope: Even with the help of Data Butler, how can astronomers possibly sift through all those to find the most important ones to follow-up on?

There are seven brokers, operated by scientists in different countries, which will process the full 10 million alerts (and two more brokers with specific science goals that will only work on a subset of the 10 million daily alerts). For example, there's a Chilean broker called ALeRCE, standing for Automatic Learning for the Rapid Classification of Events, and ANTARES, the Arizona–NOIRLab Temporal Analysis and Response to Events Systems. The U.K. broker is called Lasair (pronounced LAH-suhr, meaning 'flame' or 'flash' in Scottish and Irish Gaelic) and focuses on transients.

Think of the brokers as a set of filters that astronomers can choose to help sift through the alerts and pick out the ones that they're most interested in. Some of the brokers use machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, but more traditional modeling methods are also used for quickly processing the data.

"Astronomers can sign up to a broker, describe the kind of things they're interested in, and hope that with appropriate descriptions the 10 million alerts each night will be filtered down to maybe two or three," said Beckett.

It's not that the other 9,999,998 alerts are not of value — maybe they're just not the thing the astronomer is interested in, or perhaps they're not unique enough to demand dedicated follow-ups, but they do add to the statistics for each type of object.

Rubin will survey a quarter of the Southern Hemisphere sky every night, seeing everything and missing nothing. One might think that it is the survey to end all surveys, that there will never be a bigger survey that will produce more data. However, Beckett also works on the data management team for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), which is a huge array of radio telescopes in South Africa and Australia, and the techniques developed for Rubin and the lessons learned are going into making the data handing for the SKA run a lot smoother.

"The size of Rubin's dataset will be swamped by the SKA, which will be an order of magnitude again larger than Rubin," said Beckett.

Rules and safety for night flight

For recreational flying, you must adhere to the same drone regulations as daytime flying. In a nutshell, this includes flying within a maximum altitude of 400 ft / 120 m, maintaining a visual line of sight. You must avoid restricted airspace and register your drone if it weighs above 0.55 lbs / 250 g. You'll also need to fit an anti-collision light to your drone for night flying.

When flying a drone at night in the US, your drone must be fitted with an anti-collision light that is visible for a minimum of three miles. These lights must also have a strobe feature. In the UK, pilots must fit their drone with a green strobe.

One point to note is that fitting an anti-collision strobe to a sub-250 g drone will take it above this weight threshold. This means you'll have to register the drone with the FAA in the US and will be more restricted with regards to where it can be flown in the UK.

What's the best drone for night shooting?

This is the most common question, and in truth, any high-quality drone will do the job. Just make sure to adhere to local laws and regulations concerning flying a drone at night.

For this article, we used a DJI Mavic 3 Pro to take advantage of the 20MP Four Thirds camera with its 24mm equivalent focal length and adjustable aperture with a maximum f/2.8 setting. The 70mm equivalent camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and fixed f/2.8 aperture was also useful. This is the same sensor that's used in the DJI Mini 3 and DJI Mini 4 Pro.

The DJI Mini 3 and DJI Mini 4 Pro are also excellent drones for shooting at night because of their fast f1/.7 fixed aperture and large 2.4μm pixels on the 1/1.3-inch sensor. The DJI Air 3S is another drone that's perfect for capturing night photos and videos, thanks to excellent image quality and night-friendly features. Plus, it features a 1-inch sensor in the main camera and a 1/1.3-inch sensor in the second – both offer f/2.8 apertures.

When is the best time to shoot at night?

Unless you're shooting the night sky, which we'll delve into later, the best time to shoot at night is during dusk or blue hour. This is simply because there's still a blue glow in the sky rather than it being completely black and featureless. This glow balances beautifully with artificial lighting from buildings and street lights.

Blue hour typically occurs up to 30 minutes before sunrise and from 30 minutes after sunset. The duration of blue hour isn't necessarily an hour, and it depends entirely on the latitude of where you're shooting and the season. So, to take advantage of this time, just be on location, ready to shoot before sunset and at least an hour before sunrise. This also makes sunrise and sunset shooting possible, so it's a win-win.

Shoot aerial videos at night

Shooting videos at night is very much the same as shooting videos in daylight. The main difference is that instead of typically requiring ND filters to reduce the light entering the lens to achieve a correct shutter speed, you use ISO to increase the sensitivity of the sensor to attain the correct shutter speed. Quite simply, aim for a shutter speed that's double the frame rate of the video.

Set the video resolution and the desired frame rate. Here, it was set to 4K at 24 FPS. Next, set the shutter speed to double the frame rate, so for these settings, it was 1/50 sec. If you're shooting with a drone that has an adjustable aperture, set it to the maximum, which is often f/2.8.

Set the white balance to either Daylight/5500K to emphasize the colors of artificial lights, or set it manually to neutralize the color balance of artificial lights to make them look white. Don't use Auto white balance because this can change during flight.

These settings remain fixed. Now, simply increase the ISO until the on-screen exposure looks correct. Here, the ISO was set to 3200 based on the conditions. Hit record and perform the desired flight maneuvers.

Take aerial photos at night

Shooting photos at night is also pretty much the same as shooting in daylight. Just like shooting video, you will need to increase the ISO to boost the sensitivity of the sensor to light to achieve faster shutter speeds. The Shutter speed doesn't need to be fast if it's not windy. But if the drone is being bumped by the wind, you will have to crank up the ISO to avoid camera shake.

To capture the photo above, the drone was left in a hover at the correct altitude, then rotated and the camera pitch was adjusted to compose the photo. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro's main camera was set to ISO 1600 at f/2.8 to gather as much light as possible.

Shutter speed was set manually to 1/25 sec, which showed as being one stop underexposed. This maintains highlight detail in high-contrast night scenes while ultimately providing a natural look.

Capture the night sky

Shooting the night sky isn't the most obvious use of a drone, but it is possible. You'll need a drone that can capture photos in Raw because of the image quality and flexibility this file type produces. Mini drones work well because they have fast f/1.7 apertures to gather more light, although drones with larger sensors and f/2.8 apertures also work well.

To capture the photo above, the drone was set to hover in low-wind conditions to avoid camera shake during the long exposure. Exposure with the DJI Mavic 3 Pro's main camera was set to 3.2 seconds at f/2.8, ISO 3200, with white balance set to Auto. This exposure duration is as long as you'd ideally want to help avoid camera shake. Even when the wind is virtually non-existent on the ground, it's often windier at higher altitudes.

The above photo was taken with the same settings as the first star shot, showing how a uniform approach to exposure works well. Shooting with a longer shutter speed and a lower ISO would be preferable for improved image quality, but exposures longer than 3.2 seconds drastically increase the chances of camera shake.

The biggest challenges for capturing the night sky with a drone are similar to standard still photography. It's always best to be in the darkest location possible, ideally a dark sky location. And if there are nearby towns and villages, face the drone away from them. Light pollution makes it difficult to see stars.

Another problem is the wind, so you ideally want to shoot when there's barely even a breeze. Wind isn't always consistent, so if there is a slight breeze, shoot plenty of photos to increase the chances of one being sharp and shake-free.

Capture drone footage in daylight

While we've focused on shooting at night, the settings and concepts covered here are extremely similar to shooting in daylight, with just a few tweaks here and there.

We never quite know what to expect when we order a random no-brand product from Amazon. There's no guarantee of quality, so opening up a box is a lottery as to what you're going to get. With the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector, however, we've hit the jackpot: This star projector is seriously good quality, well deserving of a place amongst the best star projectors you can buy — and out-performing projectors costing more than twice the price.

While we're awarding the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector a 5-star rating, it does come with a note of caution. Just like the much-loved Astronaut Starry Sky projector, this is an unbranded product on Amazon. We've purchased the Hommkiety version, but you'll find other manufacturers listing an identical-looking product under a different brand name. We cannot guarantee that every product will be exactly the same, so if you grab this Galaxy Projector from a different brand, you may not have the same experience as we did.

Don't let that put you off purchasing this excellent star projector, however. This is a seriously impressive piece of kit that, in some regards, gives even the Sega Toys Homestar Classic a run for its money — a projector often lauded as one of the best on the market.

Hommkiety Galaxy Projector review: Design

• Great build quality
• Looks more like a scientific instrument than a toy
• Can easily angle at a wall or ceiling

Despite coming in a non-descript, cheap-looking box, the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector is anything but cheap once you've got it out. It's very well packaged and feels like a premium product thanks to its weightiness and solid feel. Compared to most other star projectors, this one feels like a premium product: It's more like a true scientific instrument than a toy.

The projector, shaped to resemble a telescope, is connected to a hinged base. The base is solid enough that, no matter where the projector is pointed, it always feels sturdy. You can easily angle the projector anywhere on a 180-degree scale, so adjusting it between a wall and the ceiling is no problem.

All the controls for the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector can be found on the side of the projector itself. There's no remote control here, which means you'll need to get up to operate the unit. The on-body controls are straightforward enough to use, though, so it's not an issue.

Hommkiety Galaxy Projector review: Performance

• Sharp, clear projections
• Beautifully vivid and colorful
• Easy to focus

Only one word came out of our mouth when we first turned on the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector: 'Wow!'. The projector came preinstalled with a disk showing the Moon and stars, but there are nine more included in the box. Staring up at the moon, shining bright on our bedroom ceiling, was quite the experience: The projections here are beautifully bright and incredibly vivid.

Getting the projector into focus takes no time at all, either. Simply rotate the focus wheel — found around the outside of the projector light — to find the sweet spot. It took a matter of seconds to get the Moon to be as pin-sharp as it should be. Of course, the level of focus you'll need will depend on how far away the projector is from the surface you're projecting on, so if you're planning on moving the projector around, you might need to refocus every time. It's not a big deal, though, given how easy it is to do.

We tried all 10 of the projections, and found each one to be as pleasing as the last, even the more 'just-for-fun' options, like glowing jellyfish. You'll undoubtedly have your favorite projections, but making your way through them all is a truly joyful experience of discovery. Even as adults, we reveled in every image cast upon our ceiling. For kids, it's going to be even more amazing.

Hommkiety Galaxy Projector review: Functionality

• 10 disks included

What’s particularly impressive is that the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector contains 10 different projection disks, all offering stunning images. We've not been disappointed with any of them, although we do have our favorites — probably the Moon and the Spiral Galaxy.

Images are realistic depictions of space rather than being random collections of stars, giving it a degree of scientific accuracy that most other star projectors don't offer. We've thoroughly enjoyed making our way through them all, including the solar system, Earth, Saturn, and the Virgo Supercluster.

There's a built-in sleep timer on the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector, allowing you to enjoy the images as you fall asleep without worrying about it running all night. That's about the only extra 'feature' you'll find here, though: This is purely about the projections, so you won't find a Bluetooth speaker or any other bells and whistles.

Should you buy the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector?

If you want a sharp star projector capable of projecting a variety of realistic space-themed imagery onto your walls or ceilings, you should seriously consider the Hommkiety Galaxy Projector. Its lack of branding aside, this is a seriously impressive projector that gives even the most expensive competitors a run for their money. We love how sharp and vivid the projections are, and the build quality of the projector itself feels far more impressive than the $50 price tag would suggest.

Whether you're shopping for adults or children, this is a solid choice. If you want random patterns and colors projected onto your ceiling, there are cheaper options, of course. But in terms of educational value, wow factor and value for money, we don't think you can beat this.

Lego has done it again: It has designed a small, space-friendly, wallet-friendly Star Wars set for adults, and we absolutely love it. That's all you need to know, really — but if you insist on more details, read on for a full review of the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship.

We've had several ships of this size over the last couple of years, including a Millennium Falcon and an Executor Super Star Destroyer. Still, for our money, the Acclamator-Class Assault Ship might be the best yet. It's on the smaller side, but that keeps the price down, and it's also completely sticker-free, which is always a boon, especially for a set that contains as much detail as this one does. All those red blocks and stripes on its body? They're all printed.

Affixed atop a neat stand, this is a ship that looks great by itself, standing alone on a desk or shelf, or as part of a larger collection. Whether you've got Lego Star Wars helmets or more similarly-sized ships, it looks great as part of a display.

A set that looks great and that's fun to build makes the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship a sure-fire contender for a spot in our guide to the best Lego Star Wars sets. For Lego Star Wars fans who don't have the money to drop on something like the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, consider this a must-have.

Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship review: The build

• A quick and straightforward build
• Fun to put together
• No clever/unique elements to the build

Being made of 450 pieces, it's not going to take you a long time to put together the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship. You'll be done with it in roughly 90 minutes — maybe a little longer if, like us, you want to casually build it with a movie on in the background.

The bricks are separated across four bags, with each bag strategically introducing a new part of the build. Starting with the stand, you'll see the ship come together piece-by-piece, with the more interesting parts of the build coming in the later bags. The patterned upper section of the ship is a real highlight, but we also love how it all looks from the back: The engines are very effective.

This is a very easy set to put together, and if you're new to Lego, it would make a great place to start. You won't find anything too complex here, with the 100-page instruction booklet being straightforward to follow. For seasoned Lego builders, it might be a little disappointing that there aren't advanced or out-of-the-box building methodologies used, but it makes for a straightforward, laid-back experience.

We're very grateful for the sturdy black base that the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship stands on, but it's probably the dullest part of the build. It looks great, but stacking black bricks on top of each other isn't the most exciting thing, especially if you've built similar sets before. Still, we're glad for the uniformity from one ship to the next.

When you get on to shaping out the Acclamator-Class Assault Ship, however, things get more interesting, and it comes together very quickly. It's a surprisingly sturdy ship, and although it is designed for display rather than play, we wouldn't be too worried about a child getting their hands on it to 'swoosh' it through the air.

Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship review: Design

• Lots of great details, despite the ship's small size
• Looks great on display
• No 'playability' but it is an 18+ set, designed with adults in mind

We're surprised by just how many details have been packed into the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship, given its small size. It measures just 23cm in length, but you'll find carefully-constructed engines, a command tower, a bridge and a detailed tail. If you're familiar with "Attack of the Clones", the Star Wars movie in which the Acclamator-Class Assault Ship first appeared, you'll find this mid-sized model is very much like the source material. The Lego designers have done a fantastic job of capturing the ship's likeness.

As we've said, this is a set designed for display, not play — but that's apparent from the set's 18+ labelling. It might disappoint kids who'd like an Acclamator-Class ship to woosh through the air, particularly considering this is a fairly rare model for Lego to create (compared to something like the Millennium Falcon, which it has released and re-released dozens of times), but given how lovely this looks on a shelf, it's understandable why Lego has decided to make it an adult-focused set. The curves of the ship are wonderful; it feels chunky and substantial despite being fairly small in stature.

We really hope that Lego continues to release mid-size ships. For adults who want a good display model without spending a substantial amount of money, they're a great option, and the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship is perhaps the best example we've seen. Sure, it might not be as impressive as an Ultimate Collector's Series set, but not everyone has space in their house for a 5,000+ piece set, let alone the funds to cover the $600+ price tag that most of them carry.

We really cannot emphasise enough the importance of accessible sub-$50 sets, especially when they're designed as well as this.

Should you buy Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship?

If you're a Lego Star Wars collector, then adding the Acclamator-Class Assault Ship to your collection is a no-brainer. We'd even go as far as to say that this is a great set for newcomers to Lego; its straightforward building process provides a good introduction for adults wanting to graduate to larger sets but want to test out the waters first.

It looks fantastic, it's fun to build, it's reasonably priced, and it makes a fantastic display piece: what more could you want from a Lego set?

Other Lego sets to consider

Lego has several mid-sized Star Wars ships, and although we think the Acclamator-Class Assault Ship might be the best yet, we've loved all of them. There's the Millennium Falcon, the Home One Starcruiser, the Executor Super Star Destroyer and Invisible Hand, all of which make excellent builds that aren't going to break the bank.

If you do want something bigger and more expensive, however, we just love the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, but with a price tag of $650, it's a purchase not to be taken lightly. If you want the joy of putting together an Ultimate Collector's Series set but don't want to spend quite as much, take a look at the X-Wing Starfighter. It's not exactly cheap at $239.99, but being made up of almost 2,000 pieces, it's a substantial build that looks seriously impressive when it's complete.

It's clear by just glancing at it, but this Lego Marvel set isn't designed for adults. This is a fun, simple and colorful set, designed for the youngest builders — those who are brand new to Lego, or at least putting a set together for the first time.

The joy of Lego's 4+ range is that many of its pieces are larger moldings, so while the dimensions remain the same as standard Lego bricks, models can be simpler and made up of fewer pieces. The manual is also easier to follow, only ever instructing one or two pieces at a time. It's perfect for young kids and it's very clear to follow — most youngsters will have no problem, even without a parent or older sibling helping them out.

The elephant in the room, though, is the price point: $54.99 for a 193-piece set seems eye-wateringly expensive. But seeing this set in the flesh, built up in all its colorful glory, it feels better value than it originally seemed, and some very neat, unique pieces add to the value. We just love that giant printed Spider-Man mask that sits atop the building, for example.

Lego Marvel Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters review: The build

• A straightforward, fun build
• Instruction booklets make it possible for siblings or friends to build together
• Instructions are super easy to follow, designed with young children in mind

Adults will put the Lego Marvel Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters set together in about 20 minutes — but this set isn't for them. A 4+ set, it's designed specifically for young children who are building Lego themselves for the first time. As such, it's incredibly easy to put together, with easy-to-follow instructions, chunky pieces and small, individual models.

That's one thing we really like here: The Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters is separated into four builds, each with its own instruction booklet. There's the Glide Spinner, Zola's mech, and the HQ itself, split into two floors.

If siblings or friends want to build together, they can each tackle their part of the build with a manual all to themselves. It's a very welcome touch.

The Glide Spinner helicopter is perhaps the simplest part of the build. The craft's purple body is all one piece — something you wouldn't find in 'grown-up' Lego sets, making it nice and easy for small hands to add pieces to. You won't find any tricky parts here, and there'll certainly be no bits falling off as you attach more pieces.

The mech is a nice and simple construction too, having large molded arms and legs. When it's all put together, its legs can move forwards and backwards and thanks to ball joints, the arms have a full 360-degree range of motion — great for playing with.

Finally, the Headquarters itself. It's basic, but there are some really nice features here. The bottom floor has a large archway door, and its walls are made from window panes and curved, clean panels. Inside is a seating area and a TV screen. Outside are two podiums: One has an art station on it, including a cute finished piece of work.

It's the top floor where Lego Marvel Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters really shines, though. Taking pride of place at the top of the model is a large printed dome with Spider-Man's face. Yeah, printed: you won't find any stickers here, which is a real cause for celebration.

Lego Marvel Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters review: Design

• Excellent selection of minifigures
• Colorful, eye-catching set
• Plenty of 'playability'

There are five minifigures included in Lego Marvel Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters: Spider-Man, Miles "Spin" Morales, Ghost-Spider, Iron Man and Zola. We'd argue they're the real focus piece of the set, at least for grown-ups. Undoubtedly, many collectors will want this set in their collection for the minifigures alone.

For kids, though, there's much more than just the minifigures to love. From the Zola mech's moving limbs to the Glide Spinner's rotating propellers, there's a lot to play with here. The minifigs can be placed around the HQ, with a couple of areas for them to sit, and there's even a laptop and an art easel for them to work at.

Small ladders are used as walkways, and minifigures come with a range of tools to hold in their hands — there's a wrench, spider webs, a paintbrush and a blaster, among other things.

We also love the range of colors used in the set: It's very on-brand, with the HQ being the traditional Spidey colors of red and blue. The Glide Spinner, in purple, pink and turquoise, matches the colors of Ghost-Spider. Throw in the bright orange and purple of Zola and their mech, and you have a veritable rainbow — it's a wonderfully eye-catching playset that's impossible not to love.

Should you buy Lego Marvel Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters?

If you're buying solely for yourself, you might want to think again. Unless you're a huge minifigure collector, there isn't much here for adults. The build could be done in 15 minutes flat, and as bright and bold as the set is, it's not going to look great on display thanks to how simple it is.

If you're buying for a child, though, there's a lot to love. If you've got a kid who loves Marvel and is just getting into building Lego sets, this makes a great introduction to the world of Danish bricks. It's easy to build, it's fun to play with and it will last for a long time. Our only reservation is the price: It is a little expensive, so you may want to wait for a discount.

Most Lego sets stay on store shelves for a year or two at most before being moved on and retired, making way for new sets. Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet bucks that trend: It's been around for four years now, first released in 2021, and it's still going strong. That alone speaks of the strength of this set: It's clearly been very popular with Marvel fans, and it's not hard to see why. Gold bricks tend to be rather elusive in Lego sets, but here, the gauntlet is awash with them. Besides, is there anything as iconic as the Infinity Gauntlet when it comes to Marvel?

There's a lot to like about the set too: The range of movement in the fingers is seriously impressive, and — if Thanos was normal-person-sized — it's practically life-size. It's almost a shame it's not hollow so we could slip our own hands inside.

This 18+ set is designed to be a display piece, although it's impossible to resist arranging the fingers in a number of gestures — we wouldn't dare suggest you do anything rude with them! The only real negative we can levy at the Infinity Gauntlet, however, is its price: $79.99 for a 590-piece set feels very expensive.

Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet review: The build

• A fun, interesting build
• So many gold bricks!

We've counted, and we reckon there are 176 shiny gold bricks used in the Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet set. That's about a third of the pieces used in the set, which is very impressive indeed. Does any other set have as many gold pieces? We can't say for sure, but we're fairly certain not.

Those gold bricks alone are probably enough for some Lego collectors to pick up the Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet. After all, these rare-ish pieces are highly sought-after, and for amateur Lego designers, buying this set is probably the best way to get their hands on so much gold.

But piece value aside, there's a lot to love about the Infinity Gauntlet. This is a straightforward but fun build, with its pieces spread across three bags. It'll take roughly 90 minutes to build and for the most part, it's a straightforward and pleasant process.

Putting the Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet together feels very methodical. Starting with the stand, you'll then move onto constructing the inside of the gauntlet, which provides it some much-needed structure. It's when you move onto the third bag that things get more interesting: Here, you construct the fingers.

As you'd expect from a set with so much motion in the fingers, there are some interesting building techniques used. Replicating the movement of a real hand, the thumb has one joint, with every other digit having two.

It feels like a very premium set when put together: It's solid, as well as being wonderful to look at. Even better, there's not a sticker in sight — always a boon.

Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet review: Design

• Realistically-sized... If Thanos wasn't so huge
• Features a sturdy display stand
• Vibrant and eye-catching

Serious props need to go to the Lego designers here, because the construction of the Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet truly is a feat of engineering. Not only is it seriously sturdy, but it packs in a realistic range of movement too. The joints are loose and easy to move, but tight enough so the Gauntlet will stay in whatever position you place it. It's a shame that the fingers can't move outwards, but we can't have everything — their back-and-forth movements still allow for plenty of creative positioning.

The Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet is roughly the size of a human hand, and it's affixed to a sturdy black display stand. It's a stand that matches Lego's range of Star Wars helmets, so the set wouldn't look out of place standing next to a Darth Vader and Stormtrooper helmet. That said, it looks just as striking by itself: Thanks to all those gold bricks, it stands out and demands attention no matter where you put it.

Of course, being an 18+ set, the Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet is very much designed to be a display set rather than a play set. As we've said, the fingers can be adjusted but that's about all you can do with it — as sturdy as it is, we're not sure we'd want smaller hands tugging on the fingers and trying to wedge their hands into the base (you can't: It's completely solid inside).

But as a display set, there's so much to like here. The only reservation we have is the $79.99/£79.99 price, which unfortunately increased since the set first released in 2021. It's increased by $10 in the US and an eye-watering £20 in the UK. If you're in the UK, then you'll certainly want to wait for a sale — and thankfully, we've regularly seen it reduced by 20% or more.

Should you buy Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet?

If you don't mind stumping up the $79.99 asking price for the Lego Marvel Infinity Gauntlet, then yes, this makes a wonderful addition to any collection. Even if you're not a huge Marvel Avengers fan. It's hard to argue just how lovely-looking this set is — and how eye-catching all those golden bricks are.

We'd perhaps say you should wait for a bit of a discount, though, because the asking price is pretty steep, and you can get much bigger sets (in terms of piece count) for a similar price. Still, once you've built this and seen just how nice it looks in the flesh, it's hard to resent the asking price too much.

Other Lego sets to consider

If it's value for money you want, take a look at Venomized Groot. It has more pieces than the Infinity Gauntlet, yet it is $30 cheaper at $49.99. It's a seriously fun set too, combining the cuteness of Groot and the fearsome vibes of Venom, and can be built in two different ways.

If money's no object, take a look at the super-impressive Lego Marvel Avengers Tower. It may cost an eye-watering $499.99, but it's the ultimate set for Avengers fans, packing in 31 minifigures into an almost meter-tall tower.

The Juzihao Star Projector looks, at a glance, rather like a water feature. You'd be forgiven for thinking a small fountain should shoot out of the top of it, but instead it can project colorful galaxy images on your ceiling. It's one of the most unique star projectors we've seen, and we do not doubt that its appearance will draw people in.

But does its performance match up to its looks? Well, it's certainly not bad, that's for sure. Its projections are bold and colorful — perhaps too bold and colorful if you're looking for natural-looking night sky projections. But with a built-in speaker and some unusual ways to connect it to your music, the Juzihao Star Projector offers great value for money.

Does it do enough to be one of the best star projectors on the market? Perhaps not, but considering it costs roughly around $20, it's certainly worth your consideration. Read on for our full review of the Juzihao Star Projector.

Juzihao Star Projector review: Design

• Unique, eye-catching design
• Feels solid and well-built
• Well-placed buttons on the front

It's the design of the Juzihao Star Projector that first drew us to it. It resembles a bowl, with a translucent top that's rippled to look like moving water. But of course, it isn't a water feature. The central part of the unit contains the projector, but the entire clear covering of the top will light up when it's in use.

It feels solid and well-made, and thanks to its shape, it's very secure when it's placed on any surface. It's surprising given how inexpensive the unit is: Typically, star projectors in this price range are very cheaply made, but the Juzihao Star Projector looks and feels much more premium than its price would suggest.

You'll find six buttons on the front of the unit, allowing you to control the basic range of functions, including any audio input you run through the unit. There's also a 3.5mm jack that you can connect an MP3 player to, along with a TF card slot — an unusual choice, but a nice option.

Juzihao Star Projector review: Performance

• Bright, vivid projections
• Not the widest reach
• Bright, laser stars

Since the whole top surface of the Juzihao Star Projector lights up when it's in use, it can be a little bright and blaring to look at, particularly at full brightness. Thankfully, you can turn the brightness down, but that also affects the projections on your walls and ceiling. Depending on where it's placed in the room, it might not be a big issue, but because it's so large, it's hard to avoid looking at.

The projections themselves are seriously bright and vivid, and rather enjoyable to look at. If you prefer softer, more realistic nebula patterns, however, you might want to look elsewhere: We found that the Juzihao's projections feel a little more "psychedelic" than most. Unless you turn the brightness way down, it's more suited for creating a party atmosphere than a relaxing atmosphere.

You can cycle through a range of colors, adjust the speed of the projection's movement and cycle, and you can turn on or off laser stars. Unfortunately, you'll find the same cheap, green laser stars here as you will on most budget projectors. They do have a very wide reach, though, much wider than the nebula projections, which are fairly narrow considering the size of the projection unit itself.

There's a built-in speaker, which you can use either by connecting via Bluetooth, plugging in a device to the 3.5mm jack, or inserting a TF card loaded with music. The range of options is very welcome, although we can't imagine many people using anything other than Bluetooth.

The speaker itself is of an average quality. Don't expect to blast loud, clear music out of it, but if you're using it to listen to a podcast or audiobook, it's more than adequate.

Juzihao Star Projector review: Functionality

• On-body controls as well as a remote
• Features a sleep timer
• Fairly quiet in operation

The Juzihao Star Projector comes with a decent remote control that can control both the projections, the stars and any audio you input to the device. However, you'll need to provide the batteries (2x AAA). If you misplace the remote control, don't worry: you can also control the functions directly on the projection unit. It has a row of six handy, clearly labeled buttons, making it easy to use.

One thing you will struggle to set without the remote, however, is the built-in sleep timer of the projector. You can set it to automatically turn off after either 45 or 90 minutes, making it perfect to fall asleep to without worrying about it running all night. But, there are no on-body controls for the sleep timer, only on the remote.

We're happy to report that the Juzihao Star Projector is quiet when in use. It has a gentle whirring as you'd expect, but it's easily blocked out if you're using the built-in speaker. It's certainly not distracting, even in the quiet.

Should you buy the Juzihao Star Projector?

If you want a star projector unit that you can use to create a party atmosphere, we think the Juzihao Star Projector is a good choice. It can be picked up on Amazon for around $20, making it a real bargain.

But if you're looking for a projector that offers realistic, scientific images, this isn't the one for you. The 'galaxy' projections are more funky-looking than actual nebulas. For something more realistic, we'd recommend taking a look at something like the Pococo Galaxy Star Projector. Or if you'd like something that offers softer, more relaxing colors, we recommend the BlissLights Sky Lite Evolve.

The most important thing, surely, when choosing a star projector is how well it projects onto your walls and ceiling. The Fliti Galaxy Projector nails it, with a huge reach able to cover most of a standard-sized bedroom. The nebula projections are stunning too, transporting you to a magical world. The only thing that lets this projector down is the cheap build quality and its green laser stars. With a more thoughtful design, this could be one of the best star projectors on the market.

However, costing around $40 (or often less – it's frequently on sale), it still offers pretty decent value, particularly if you don't care about scientific accuracy. This isn't a real depiction of the night sky, but it will give you some of the best nebulas and aurora-type patterns we've seen in a budget star projector.

FLITI Galaxy Projector review: Design

• Cheap, unattractive build
• Stand is separate from the projector unit
• Speaker on underside of projector

The design of the Fliti Galaxy Projector is probably our least favorite thing about the unit. It's not attractive, it looks cheap, which is a shame because it's a very good projector. The unit is made from black plastic in an uninspiring shape; there's nothing premium about its looks.

Worse still is the fact that the stand is separate from the actual projector unit. The projector simply rests on top, and while it's somewhat secure, it could easily be knocked off.

The Fliti Galaxy Projector is capable of playing music and sounds via Bluetooth, but the speaker is on the underside of the projector, which somewhat stifles the volume and quality. It seems an odd choice, given the unit seems to be big enough to house a speaker on its side.

FLITI Galaxy Projector review: Performance

• Gorgeous projections
• Impressive reach
• Disappointing Bluetooth speaker

The projections offered by the Fliti Galaxy Projector are some of the best we've seen in a budget model. They're vibrant, sharp and beautiful. Most importantly, it has a surprisingly good reach, able to cover most of our bedroom ceiling, even from one side of the room. That's thanks in part to the projector's dome-shaped design, which helps it reach a wider area.

There are plenty of settings available on the projector, all of which can be accessed via the included remote. You can cycle through colors, adjust the movement speed of the projection, and more. Whether you want to use the projector to relax or create a party atmosphere, the settings allow you to set the ideal ambience.

The nebula projections are let down somewhat, however, by the accompanying laser stars. They're green, which ruins any sense of realism, although thankfully, these can be turned on or off independently of the main projections. We've found it to look much more appealing with the laser turned off.

There's a built-in Bluetooth speaker, but as you might expect of a budget projector, it isn't the best quality. It's fairly quiet and lacks any real bass or substance, so you might want to avoid playing music through it. For ambient sounds or an audiobook, however, it should do the trick.

FLITI Galaxy Projector review: Functionality

You can control everything on the Fliti Galaxy Projector with the included remote control (although you'll have to supply your own AAA batteries). But, there are basic controls on the unit itself, so you can turn it on and off and adjust the lights.

The galaxy projector is USB-powered, and it'll need to be connected at all times: there's no rechargeable battery here, so it needs to be placed near a power outlet whenever it's in use. Handily, there's a built-in sleep timer, so if you want to use it to fall asleep without worrying about it staying on all night, you can set it to turn off after one or two hours.

Should you buy the FLITI Galaxy Projector?

While we wish the build quality of the Fliti Star Projector was a little better, there's no denying that its projections are absolutely gorgeous. You're unlikely to find better projections for a cheaper price, and we could gaze at its projected nebulas all night long. It's a shame that its laser stars aren't a little more effective, but overall, it's hard to be too disappointed.

Of course, if you're looking for something more scientifically accurate, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. We can recommend the Orzorz Galaxy Lite or the Sega Toys Homestar Flux.

We're pretty confident in saying that you won't find another star projector with as fun a design as the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector. The projector itself is dinosaur egg-shaped, and the outer is covered in a printed, textured, hard-wearing plastic that resembles a real egg. It's very effective, and it feels premium to handle.

Better yet, the top of the 'egg' comes off, which reveals the projector inside. You'll have to take this off if you want to use the projector, of course, but when it's stood out of use, it looks seriously neat.

The entire egg stands on a base, separate from the unit, allowing it to be angled in a variety of ways. Place the egg upright if you want to project onto a ceiling, for example, or tilt it on its side if you want to project on a wall.

We're very impressed with the quality of the projections of the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector. They're fairly subtle, perfect for relaxing with. You can cycle between 14 different colors, all of which will create beautiful, relaxing ripple effects on your walls and ceilings. Given the fairly small size of the projection unit, the projections have a good reach, covering most of our bedroom ceiling.

You can, of course, adjust the projections to suit your needs. There are four different speeds available, along with different brightnesses, but you'll need the remote control to change most settings.

Along with the nebula-like projections, you can also use the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector to project stars onto the ceiling. Unfortunately, it's the same cheap green laser stars you'll find in most budget star projectors, but you can at least turn them off if you'd simply rather focus on the colorful nebulas.

Along with lights, you can also use the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector to play music and sounds. You can connect your phone to the built-in Bluetooth speaker, though don't expect the best quality music. It's fine to play at low volumes, or to listen to an audiobook or podcast.

A neat feature is the star projector's built-in white noise sounds. You can choose between 19 sounds, such as rain, a stream, a crackling fire and bird sounds. Some users might find these very useful to fall asleep to or to place in a child's room to help them settle at night.

As we've already mentioned, the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector sets itself apart from other star projectors by having a built-in white noise sound machine. It can play various relaxing noises, designed to help users relax and fall asleep. It's a nice touch, and, of course, you can also sync your music to it using the Bluetooth connection. It's very easy to sync your device as the speaker automatically enters pairing mode when turned on.

You can control the most basic functions of the projector by using the three on-body buttons, but for most functions, including the sound machine and the built-in sleep timer, you'll need the remote. It's a compact little remote, but it feels better quality than most, although you'll need to provide your own AAA batteries.

Should you buy the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector?

We're very impressed with almost everything about the Item Emporium Dinosaur Egg Star Projector. Its design is simply wonderful, and we think it'll be loved by kids and adults alike. It works very well, too, both as a star projector and as a music/sound player. The projections are relaxing and subtle, and even if they aren't particularly scientific, they make the perfect ambience for falling asleep.

If you're looking for a scientifically accurate star projector, look elsewhere now. But if you're looking for a projection lamp that can be used either to relax or to create a fun party vibe, the Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light is well worth considering.

While its product title features the word 'Galaxy', it's not much of a star or galaxy projector. Rather, it projects colourful waves and ripples onto your wall and ceiling. Switch to the purple/blue option and it could pass as an aurora, just about. But if you're more concerned with creating a cozy, glowing atmosphere, it's a great option, particularly given its sub-$20 asking price.

It's amongst the cheapest projector lights that you can buy, so if you're on a budget, it's a great choice. You also shouldn't be put off by this coming from a no-name brand: we're pleasantly surprised by the quality of the lamp. It's the sort of thing we'd gladly keep on our bedside cabinet year-round, and thanks to its surprisingly bright bulb, it's a comfortable enough light to read under — a nice bonus on top of the beautiful projections it offers. Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light review: Design

• Well-made, stylish design
• Looks premium

The Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light is a cube-shaped light with a wooden base. There's an acrylic cover over the bulb and motor made to look like frosted glass. It's sturdy, and it really does look like glass. We're pleasantly surprised with how stylish this lamp looks, actually, particularly given its MSRP of just $19.99.

The cube is roughly 5.5 inches on each side, so it's substantial enough to make a statement but won't take up too much space on your bedside cabinet.

There are no buttons or controls at all on the lamp, which is both a blessing and a curse. It keeps the unit looking stylish and understated, but to control it, you'll need to use the remote control. We'd have liked at least a discreet on/off switch, but it's hardly a dealbreaker. The remote control is at least easy to use and it can be used to adjust the color of the Projector Light along with its mode (solid color or cycling through them) and the brightness.

Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light review: Performance

• Bright light, perfect for a bedside lamp
• Not a star projector

We're reluctant to call the Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light a 'star projector', and we'd even take umbrage with its use of 'Galaxy' in the product name. Its projections barely resemble the galaxy, and could only be classed as aurora-like at a real push. It also doesn't have a laser, so it doesn't project any stars, unlike other cheap projectors on the market. That's not necessarily a bad thing; rarely do cheap laser stars look effective.

Forget the fact that this isn't really a star projector, though, and you'll find it offers up gorgeous, relaxing projections. It looks more like waves and ripples on your wall and ceiling; it feels more like being underwater or back in the womb.

The bulb inside the lamp is surprisingly bright, and when it's set to white (there are 16 RGB colors to choose from), it can be used as a standard bedside lamp. We've been able to read under the light without straining our eyes, which makes it an ideal choice for an everyday bedside lamp, just with the added function of casting ripples onto your ceiling.

The reach of the Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light is impressive, too. Even when it's tucked away in the corner of my bedroom on my bedside table, it's able to cover most of the ceiling and walls. That's largely thanks to the big, open design of the lamp: the full acrylic cube acts as a projector, offering super-wide projections.

Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light review: Functionality

As mentioned above, the Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light has no buttons at all on the actual unit: It needs to be fully controlled from the remote control. It's not much of a problem, as long as you don't lose the remote: It's rather small, so be careful not to lose it down the side of the bed!

There are no additional functions included with this Projector Light. It's a lamp only, so you won't find a built-in Bluetooth speaker or even a sleep timer. The latter is a bit of a wasted opportunity, as it would have been nice to leave this on to fall asleep to, safe in the knowledge it would power itself down after 45 minutes or so.

You can change the color of the Projector Light to one of 16 colors, or you can set it to cycle between all of them. There's a choice between a gentle cycle (perfect for relaxing), or a 'flash' mode, which quickly switches between them — more suited to a party atmosphere.

Should you buy the Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light?

If you don't want a scientifically accurate star projector, and if you're not too bothered by the absence of stars, period, we think the Jiawen Galaxy Projector Light is a fantastic choice. It's budget-friendly, costing less than $20, and for that, you're getting a high-quality lamp that can project relaxing and fun colorways on your walls and ceilings. It's the perfect option for unwinding at night, and the bulb's brightness makes it a good bedside lamp option.

If you do want something more space-themed, you should consider the Orzorz Galaxy Lite Star Projector or something from Sega Toys, although expect to spend significantly more.

If you're looking for one of the best star projectors, the same name will keep coming up: Sega Toys. Yes, that Sega. The very same company that brought us Sonic the Hedgehog also has a hand in creating realistic imagery star projectors, and they're amongst the best.

The Sega Toys Homestar has been around since 2006 and quickly established itself as one of the best star projectors around. Almost 20 years later, it's still largely unrivaled — although with projectors like the Orzorz Galaxy Lite and the Pococo Galaxy appearing on the market in recent years, the company has been given more of a run for its money than ever before.

Still, there's something to be said for the Sega Toys Homestar Classic, a repackaged version of the Original, now available in several colors (black, white, blue and red). Now with the unmistakable "SEGA" logo on the box, it looks every bit the quality product that it is. And while it might be amongst the more expensive star projectors on the market, if you're looking for realistic projections, few offer the same level of clarity (and choice) as this.

It takes a little bit of fiddling to get the focus just right, but when you do, it really has that wow factor. If you've been using a super cheap star projector up until now, the Sega Toys Homestar Classic feels like stepping into a new world.

Sega Toys Homestar Classic: Design

• Easy to use
• Looks premium
• Sturdy and easy to adjust

I love how the Sega Toys Homestar Classic looks. Simple and understated, its spherical body manages to somehow look both classic and futuristic. It won't look too obnoxious wherever it's placed in your home, especially if you opt for a black or white version. It is also available in red or blue; both are a little more garish and perhaps more suited to a child's bedroom.

It's very easy to use, at least once you've got the projector focused. Turning it on is a simple case of plugging it into the mains — an AC adapter is included — then toggling the power switch to 'on'. There are only three more settings to choose from: you can turn on shooting stars, enable subtle movement, or select a sleep timer. I'll get onto those settings shortly.

It's a very sturdy-feeling projector, most noticeably when you're trying to adjust its projection angle. Its stand, a single metal loop, doesn't feel flimsy at all, and the projector itself can be angled anywhere between 0 and 90 degrees to face a wall or a ceiling.

Sega Toys Homestar Classic: Performance

• Almost silent in operation
• Gorgeous projections
• Needs to be fully dark to work properly

You can barely hear the Sega Toys Homestar Classic when it's in use, making it perfect to fall asleep to. Unlike other models, this projector doesn't rotate; rather, it can gently pan the image across the projection area. It means there's no noisy motor whirring away when it's switched on, giving you no reason to be distracted from its gorgeous projections.

Because the projections you'll get out of the Sega Toys Homestar Classic are gorgeous. Sharp, bright and beautiful, it's like looking at the night sky from the most remote part of the world on a clear night. It's stunning. In the box, you'll get two discs: the Northern Hemisphere and the Northern Hemisphere with constellations. It's a shame there isn't a little more variety, although plenty more discs are available to purchase, costing around $20 each.

Perhaps the only slight problem I've encountered with the Sega Toys Homestar Classic is that it can take quite a while to get the focus just right. The focus wheel, found around the projector light itself, can turn and turn and turn, and it's hard to know if you're initially turning in the right direction. Unlike the focus wheel on a camera or binoculars, it feels rather loose and requires a lot of turning before you start to see a difference in the projected image.

It's also very easy to turn the focus wheel too far, with your image going back out of focus. It's important to pay attention and stop at just the right time. Thankfully, once you've found focus, the projector won't lose it. How much you need to turn the focus wheel will depend on how far away your projector is from its projection surface — 59 to 90 inches (150cm to 230cm) is the recommended range.

It's also worth noting that, for the Homestar Classic to work as intended, you'll need your room fully dark. So, wait until after the sun has set, close the drapes and turn off the light. You're in for a serious treat. Even just a dull lamp in the corner of the room can drastically affect the quality of the projections, so bear that in mind.

Sega Toys Homestar Classic: Functionality

While the Sega Toys Homestar Classic is a quality star projector, some might think it lacks some bells and whistles. It doesn't come with a remote control, for example, and its rudimentary settings can all be changed on the device itself.

The projector won't rotate, for example, and it has no built-in speaker or Bluetooth connectivity that you might find on some modern projectors. But there's a good reason for this: The Homestar Classic is designed to provide realistic images of the night sky. It isn't gimmicky or designed purely for novelty.

So while some other star projectors might have more features on the face of it, they're unlikely to provide as good images of the night sky as the Homestar Classic. Here, they're phenomenal: clear, crisp and mesmerizing.

One of my favorite functions of the Sega Toys Homestar Classic is the 'shooting star' option. Press the relevant button on the unit, and you'll randomly see shooting stars appear in the projection. It's seriously neat, although a little too random: the first time I put it on, I had shooting stars every few seconds. I turned it on again to show my partner ("look how neat this is!"), and we were waiting minutes without seeing one.

There's also a 'move' option, which gently pans the image across your projected area. It's a very slow, gentle movement rather than a rotation, so some people might find this soothing to fall asleep or relax to.

The only other button you'll find on the unit itself, aside from the power switch, is a timer. You can set a sleep timer for 15, 30 or 60 minutes, at which time the unit will power itself down — perfect for ensuring it doesn't keep running all night if you plan to use it before bed.

Should I buy the Sega Toys Homestar Classic?

You might wonder why on Earth you should consider spending $150 on a star projector when there are some costing only a fraction of that price. Heck, we've included some in our best star projectors guide that can be picked up for as little as $30.

But you need to consider exactly what you want. Do you want a pretty and colorful light show that might help you relax, but bears no resemblance to the actual night sky? Or do you want a realistic representation of the night sky — one that can even go as far as to tell you what every constellation is, and where it can be found? The Sega Toys Homestar Classic is much more than just a light show, and after just one look at the gorgeous images it projects on your walls and ceilings, it will convince you it's worth every penny.

For even more realism, there's the Sega Toys Homestar Flux, which boasts brighter lights, greater focus distances and advanced optics — but of course, that carries an even greater price tag.

Cheaper, realistic projections can be found in the Orzorz Galaxy Lite or the Pococo Galaxy, which also uses interchangeable discs. But if you have the budget, I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing the Sega Toys Homestar Classic: This is a seriously good projector, and one I can see myself using for years to come.

There's no doubt that the Astronaut Starry Sky Star Projector is aimed at children but don't be fooled into thinking this is a toy. It's not scientifically accurate but it's starry display is sure to delight children and you might have some adults borrowing it too.

In our review of the Astronaut Starry Sky Star Projector we awarded it four out of five stars, calling it a "Cost-effective way to add immediate ambiance to a room." It may not have the power of the BlissLights Sky Lite 2.0 and the Encalife Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Star Projector but it offers plenty of performance given its price tag.

However, there are multiple manufacturers selling their own version of this product. Don't be tempted to spend $100 on a model that's functionally identical to this sub-$20 star projector.

Best under $30

When we reviewed the Pikoy Galaxy Projector, it was available for less than $20 and while the price has since gone up it's still fantastic value at less than $30.

It's a surprisingly small projector, capable of sitting neatly in your palm. Despite its size, it's not rechargeable but it's compact enough to perch on a shelf and powerful enough to fill a small to mid-sized room with colorful lights and lasers. While adults will enjoy this display, it's geared towards children, coming in white, navy, blue and pale pink colors.

One child-friendly feature, in particular, is the built-in speaker that can be used to play children to sleep with audiobooks, nursery rhymes, rainforest sounds and more. And thanks to the backlit buttons, you can switch it off in the dark without the risk of waking its owner.

Best ambient under $40

Pick up the BlissLights Sky Lite Evolve and you'll be immediately struck by its spherical shape. Its round design means it has near 360-degree projection; just place it in the middle of the room and you'll be treated to its undeniably gorgeous display.

You can choose between three models: blue, green and no stars, the latter of which is a little cheaper. All feature colour blending technology which ensures its shifting transitions are never jarring.

You can happily sit back and let the BlissLights Sky Lite Evolve operate, not least because it's so silent. But it's also supremely customisable. It can be integrated into your smart home setup and, via a mobile phone app, you can edit the already impressive light shows.

It's likely a coincidence but the Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium's resemblance to R2D2 is sure to get the attention of adults and children alike. It's marketed firmly at the latter, a STEM tool designed to educate and entertain children from 6 upwards, who have a burgeoning interest in space.

It comes with changeable (rotating) discs showing 24 official NASA images of nebulae, spacecraft, astronauts, planets and the moon, some taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. It's not aimed at creating an ambience, rather, it's a tool for teaching children about the night sky.

The Deep Space Home Planetarium is ideal for children ages 6 and up. It requires hands-on operation, which is sure to keep children engaged with it longer. You can't currently buy more discs, but we still think this is a fantastic, bargain-priced investment for space-loving children.

Best under $50

If you're looking for an educational projector that you can slip in your pocket, the Dark Skys Skyview Pocket Planetarium fits the bill. Not only does it project accurate images of the Northern Hemisphere's skies, but it also has an optional line overlay, making it easier to pick out each constellation. We think it's the best pocketable projector for kids.

You can use it to spot Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cygnus, Draco and others, all revolving around Polaris, and it also boasts a rechargeable battery, making it extra portable. It doesn't boast a lot in the way of functionality, and it does require a darkened room, more so than some other projectors which operate well in lit rooms.

But for less than $50 it's a great way to introduce children to the cosmos and, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, you can head outside and see if you can spot those same stars you've been looking at moments earlier.

The Encalife Ambience Galaxy and Star Projector lives up to its name, enhancing the ambience of any room with its vivid displays. It provides four colors (blue, green, white and red) and offers plenty of customisation options and, thanks to its dome design, it can project its display to fill a whole room.

In our Encalife Ambience Galaxy and Star Projector review, we were impressed by its build quality (even if its packaging is lackluster) and by how quietly it operated. Its sleek design and black colour mean it blends in with many home entertainment systems.

This small tabletop star projector is unique compared with all of the previous models we have reviewed in that it comes with its own little tripod. You can detach it and place the unit on a flat surface, or use the tripod with its ball head to maximize positioning options.

We can liken the shape of the star projector to 'spaceship-like', giving further appeal to space enthusiasts or Sci-Fi fans. It is by no means a 'discrete' star projector as its striking design would stand out against modern decor, but it still has a fairly small footprint to fit on a bookcase or bedside table.

The packaging box is typical of a mass-produced star projector. Curious grammar with the headline marketing being 'Bring a Romantic Starry Night'. Obviously, not the be-all and end-all, but it does 'cheapen' the product, especially if you're giving it to someone as a gift.

The 'feel' of the unit is fine, but it doesn't feel premium. It feels a lot more toy-like than the likes of the premium Sega Toys Homestar Flux, but given the $200+ price tag difference, that's hardly surprising. The design of the overall finish, buttons and function logos has also been given little style attention, but they do their functional jobs accordingly. As always, we'd prefer glow-in-the-dark or backlit buttons to make operation in the dark a little easier. A handy instruction manual is supplied in five languages to get the projector up and running quickly.

A fairly long USB-A to USB-C cable is included, so you shouldn't have a problem reaching your nearest mains supply, and the unit is available with a Black or White finish.

It took next to no time to get the star projector up and running. Within minutes, we had the lights and lasers dancing along to music blasting from the speakers that we had linked to our phone using Bluetooth.

The speakers are pretty good, given how cheap this unit is. The music we streamed through it didn't sound tinny, but perhaps a bit 'fuzzy' when the volume is set to maximum. There is little 'bass' to speak of, which we'd expect from a cheap portable speaker, but the overall sound isn't bad at all. It would be ideal for playing an audiobook at bedtime, or having background focus or ambient music playing. It would also work well as a speaker in a spa to accompany the relaxing lighting patterns. We know someone who uses this exact star projector in a sensory room to play calming music and nature sounds alongside the lights.

Lighting-wise, again, we were pleasantly surprised when we booted up the unit. The lights shine brightly, even during the daytime, on both light and dark colored walls. The brightness can be adjusted from a soft, barely-there glow to a bright, almost fluorescent shine.

The YgiTK Northern Galaxy Lights Projector offers pretty much the same functionality as the similarly priced Cadrim Star Projector we reviewed recently.

There are two preset modes for the "aurora" lights, both cycling through a combination of colors, but there isn't much to differentiate them from one another. Using the remote control, you can customize the lighting to your desired lighting combination by picking which RGBW colors are turned on or off at any time. There aren't as many customization options as units supplied with an app (like the Encalife Atmosphere), but there's enough, given the price point.

You have the option to project a 'moon and stars' image, but interestingly, you can only turn this on or off using the remote. The green lasers can be changed to 'breathe', stay static, or be turned off completely.

Again, like the Cadrim, the operation is near-silent. You could definitely use this device as a sleep aid or for creating a focused work environment without being woken up or distracted by the sound of moving motors.

This is a multi-functional star projector, and all functions work well. Unlike some of the more expensive models, there is no associated app or voice control, just a simple 'universal-style' remote control. The remote requires 2 x AAA batteries, which aren't supplied. Not everyone likes having to install apps, register for accounts, or use their phone to control their devices, so this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The remote control, we found, wasn't always reliable, and a few attempts were needed to get it to respond; on some occasions, we had to move closer to the unit. As we've mentioned before, often the basic functionality of these units can be controlled with remotes that ship with other similar models. This is handy if you have more than one star projector. You can typically change all of the basics (volume, power, sleep timer) using a different model's remote.

We've already discussed the quality of the speakers, but we haven't yet mentioned the option to plug a USB flash drive to play MP3 music from. This might seem a little outdated, but there are some occasions where this is handy. Take the sensory room use we mentioned earlier, no one needs to connect their phone to the unit to play an approved list of audio. It's also helpful if you don't want to leave your phone unattended, or for the music to go off if you walk out of the room with your phone. You could load up an audiobook so you don't need to look at a screen to start it at bedtime. There are still plenty of uses for this functionality.

Like most star projectors, a fairly standard function is a sleep timer. This unit allows you to set it for thirty or sixty minutes. No need to wake yourself (or someone else) up to turn it off.

Should I buy the YgiTK Northern Galaxy Lights Star Projector?

Given that this star projector is available for less than $20, we recommend it. Just a couple of years ago, the functionality of this model would have been something you could only find in much more expensive star projectors. The quality of star projectors has improved as they have gained popularity, and because there is much more competition on the market, we've seen the price of such models generally decrease.

The YgiTK Northern Galaxy Lights Star Projector is remarkably quiet to operate and the lasers and lights are plenty bright enough for use in most environments (better in the dark, but they can be used during the daytime too). The speaker is impressive for a cheap portable Bluetooth model, and we like that you can stream music live off a paired Bluetooth device and have the option of plugging in a flash drive. It is a cost-effective means of completely transforming the mood of a room. Remember to search for the model number, BL-XK03-01, as you might be able to find it cheaper from different distributors.

If a good speaker quality is the most important element to you, the Govee Star Projector is a standout performer — the speaker is great. Although if you are looking for something with quiet motor operation, steer clear of this. We tried to use it in our focused work environment and the buzz from the motor was a distraction. It's a unit best used in noisier environments like play school classrooms or hospital wards, for example.

If you're looking for a basic means of filling up your environment with a single color of pinpoint lasers, you can't go far wrong with the BlissLights Starport USB star projector. It would be great to make a DJ booth more exciting or make a gaming room feel more immersive, taking up next to no space.

For a disc-projection-style star projector, we have reviewed a couple of models recently that we'd happily recommend. The first that springs to mind is the Orzors Galaxy Lite projector. It is a more affordable version of the more premium scientific star projectors and is also reusable. Its disks can be used with the highly rated Pococo Galaxy star projector, too.

What is it?

NASA's X-59 quiet supersonic research aircraft was developed by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works for the space agency's Low-Boom Flight Demonstrator project. Through the use of a long, narrow airframe and canards, the X-59 is able to reduce the noise that reaches the ground from sonic booms generated as the aircraft crosses the speed of sound.

The X-59's cockpit, ejection seat and canopy come from a T-38 "Falon" training jet and the landing gear from an F-16 "Falcon" fighter jet. The research aircraft (X-plane) is 100 feet long (30.4 meters) and has a 29.5-foot (9-meter) wingspan.

Powered by a General Electric F-414 engine, the X-59 is projected to reach a maximum speed of Mach 1.5 or 990 mph (1,590 km/h), and cruise at Mach 1.42 or 940 mph (1,510 km/h) at 55,000 feet (16,800 meters).

Where is it?

Though the X-59 thought it was high above the ground during the simulation tests, it was actually parked at Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works facility in Palmdale, California.

Why is it amazing?

"The idea behind these tests is to command the airplane's subsystems and flight computer to function as if it is flying," said Yohan Lin, the X-59's lead avionics engineer at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, in an interview with NASA.

During the testing, engineers turned on most of the aircraft's systems but left the engine off. The flight computer still had control over the X-59's control surfaces, responding to inputs that simulated changes in altitude, speed, temperature or the health of its various systems.

"These were simple maneuvers, nothing too crazy," Lin said. "We would then inject failures into the airplane to see how it would respond. Would the system compensate for the failure? Was the pilot able to recover?"

Historically, this work is known as "iron bird" testing, named for a simple metal frame on which representations of the aircraft's subsystems are installed, connected and checked out. Since the X-59 is a one-of-a-kind, officials decided it was better and less expensive to use the aircraft itself.

As such, the series of exercises was dubbed "aluminum bird" testing, since that's the primary metal comprising the X-59.

Houston-based startup Venus Aerospace has completed the first-ever test flight of a rotating detonation rocket engine (RDRE) in the United States.

The launch took place on Wednesday (May 14) from Spaceport America in New Mexico. A small rocket equipped with Venus' RDRE lifted off at 9:37 a.m. EDT (1337 GMT; 7:37 a.m. local time in New Mexico).

The milestone marked the first successful test of such an engine from U.S. soil and took Venus a "step closer to making high-speed flight accessible, affordable and sustainable," the company said in a statement.

"This is the moment we've been working toward for five years," Venus CEO Sassie Duggleby said in the statement.

The test serves as a proof of design for Venus's RDRE and keeps the company on track for runway-based high-speed flight, she added: "We've proven that this technology works — not just in simulations or the lab, but in the air."

The Venus RDRE uses a compact, high-efficiency design the company hopes can eventually power aircraft up to Mach 6 — six times the speed of sound — starting from conventional runways. Compared to traditional rocket engines, RDREs offer greater thrust in smaller packages, but up until now the technology has been mostly theoretical.

Normally, rocket engines burn fuel in a combustion chamber in a steady, controlled process. RDREs use a continuous detonation wave that travels in a circle within a ring-shaped chamber, which produces higher pressure and efficiency and results in increased thrust with less fuel.

"This milestone proves our engine works outside the lab, under real flight conditions," Venus CTO Andrew Duggleby said in the same statement. "We've built an engine that not only runs, but runs reliably and efficiently — and that's what makes it scalable."

The RDRE is designed to work in tandem with Venus's VDR2 air-breathing detonation ramjet — a combination the company says will enable sustained hypersonic flight without the need for a booster. (Hypersonic flight is generally defined as Mach 5 and above.)

"This is the foundation we need that, combined with a ramjet, completes the system from takeoff to sustained hypersonic flight," Andrew Duggleby said.

With the successful test in the books, Venus is planning full-scale propulsion test of their integrated system as it moves to qualify the design of its future Stargazer M4, a reusable passenger aircraft capable of reaching Mach 4.
